Baby Waluigi Cries Waaaah In Mario Tennis Fever

Nintendo just dropped a new trailer for Mario Tennis Fever, the next game in the series coming to the Switch 2. The trailer shows off the different ways to play and some special rackets you can unlock, but the biggest surprise is the introduction of Baby Waluigi as a playable character – and he looks fantastic!

Alongside Baby Waluigi, Mario Tennis Fever is adding several new faces to the roster! Players will be able to play as Goomba, Nabbit, Piranha Plant, and Baby Wario for the first time, bringing the total number of playable characters to 38. The game also introduces 30 unique Fever Rackets, each with special abilities. Nintendo highlighted a couple of these, like the Pokey Racket, which sends enemies to your opponent’s side of the court, and the Golden Dash Racket, which significantly boosts your character’s speed.

Nintendo explained how to defend against Fever shots in the game. If you hit the ball back without letting it bounce—a move called a volley—you can reflect the special effect back at your opponent. For example, if an opponent uses an Ice Racket to create a slippery patch on the court, you can volley the Fever shot back to make the slippery area appear on their side instead.

The new Mario Tennis Fever game offers a couple of interesting features. Players can turn off “Fever Rackets” for simpler gameplay. Also, the game supports a “GameShare” feature, allowing local multiplayer matches between Switch and Switch 2 consoles even if all players don’t own a copy of the game.

Mario Tennis Fever will be released on February 12th and is now available for pre-order exclusively for the Switch 2. This is the first new game in the Mario Tennis series since Mario Tennis Aces came out in 2018.
