Avengers: Secret Wars will reportedly retcon an emotional MCU moment.

Following ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which is scheduled for release in December 2026, Marvel will release ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in 2027. Both films are directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, known collectively as the Russo Brothers. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently undergoing post-production.

Marvel hasn’t revealed much about the plot of the upcoming Secret Wars movie, but according to Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus, it will change a key event from the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I was really affected by the ending of No Way Home – it was heartbreaking to see Peter have to erase himself from MJ and Ned’s memories. It looks like that’s going to be a big part of the next movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, coming out in July 2026. I’m so curious to see how he rebuilds those relationships!

According to Perez, the spell will eventually fail when the universe goes through its cycle of destruction and rebirth. It was primarily used to maintain separation between different universes.

Currently, it’s just speculation whether Tom Holland will appear in the next two Avengers films, as his involvement hasn’t been officially confirmed. However, producer Kevin Perez has indicated he anticipates Holland playing a significant role in the Secret Wars movie.

The next Avengers movie, titled ‘Doomsday,’ is scheduled to hit US theaters on December 18, 2026, and will be part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. ‘Secret Wars,’ another Avengers film, will follow a year later on December 17, 2027.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on Disney+.
