Disney tried to reveal a new poster for their upcoming Marvel movie, but a significant error occurred during the marketing process.
Okay, so things got weird at the Disney showcase in Brazil. They showed off what’s coming up, including Avengers: Secret Wars, and used a fan-made poster as part of the official reveal! It really threw fans for a loop. The poster hinted at this massive, universe-colliding event, and it included two characters we haven’t seen in the MCU yet: the Beyonder and Miles Morales. They put it up there with posters for Frozen 3 and The Incredibles 3, but here’s the thing – the Miles Morales design was straight out of the Spider-Man game by Insomniac! Like, he was posed mid-web-swing, exactly how he looks in the game. Apparently, the Brazilian entertainment site Omlete confirmed it wasn’t official artwork. So, Disney basically used fan art as a key part of their presentation, which is… unexpected, to say the least.
Disney’s inclusion of a fan-made poster in a major presentation was a surprisingly careless and unprofessional error. It raises questions about the quality control of Marvel’s marketing, especially since many people likely saw it. Fans have already expressed worries about the direction of Marvel Studios after Avengers: Endgame, and this incident only adds to those concerns. On the r/marvelstudios Reddit forum, fans are discussing how misleading the poster was, pointing out that it features characters who are unlikely to actually appear in the film.
One Reddit user, Spider_Boyo, noticed the image seemed to be a flipped version of box art for Insomniac’s Miles Morales, and the unexpected inclusion of Captain America, suggesting it wasn’t official artwork for the upcoming Secret Wars. Another user, sugarplumechoo, pointed out that Disney using fan-made posters at official events is unusual, and speculated that it could be a way to gauge public interest in different characters.
Will Miles Morales And The Beyonder Really Be In Avengers: Secret Wars?
As many reports have pointed out, the Avengers: Secret Wars poster Disney shared wasn’t official artwork created by Marvel. It was actually made by a fan. This means any speculation that characters like Miles or the Beyonder will appear in the next Avengers movie based on that poster is likely incorrect and without merit. While it’s unclear why Disney used this fan-made poster instead of creating their own, it’s still frustrating that they didn’t invest in official artwork for the film.
As a huge fan, I’m really hoping we see Miles Morales join the main Marvel Cinematic Universe someday, but right now, his live-action future, and the Beyonder’s too, is pretty uncertain. It seems Sony is committed to Miles as the lead and is gearing up for the final movie in the trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The only real clue connecting Miles to the MCU so far is from Spider-Man: Homecoming – Donald Glover played Miles’ uncle, Aaron Davis (aka The Prowler). But Glover hasn’t been back since that cameo, so I’m trying not to get too excited about that artwork from the rumored Avengers: Secret Wars poster. It probably isn’t a solid confirmation, sadly.
Avengers: Secret Wars arrives in theaters on Dec. 17., 2027.
