Avengers: Doomsday’s Trailers Effectively Ban 1 Hugely Powerful Hero From Fighting Doctor Doom

The trailers for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ suggest a storyline that will prevent one of the MCU’s most powerful new heroes from participating in the main conflict. Although the biggest battles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are usually reserved for team-up Avengers films, not all of the franchise’s strongest characters have been included in those fights.

While the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame movies showcased the abilities of nearly all the heroes and villains, the Marvel Cinematic Universe often holds back characters – both good and bad – from appearing in every film or scene. This is usually done to serve the story or to keep the conflict between heroes and villains balanced. It looks like the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday will continue this trend.

Avengers: Doomsday’s Teasers Are Already Preemptively Justifying One Powerful MCU Hero Being Left Out Of Its Battles

The recently released trailers for Avengers: Doomsday have given fans exciting glimpses of what’s to come in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe film. One trailer revealed Chris Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers, now a father, while the other showed Thor seeking advice from his father, Odin, as he struggles with difficult challenges.

Thor’s primary goal throughout the story is to get back to his adopted daughter, Love, whom he began raising at the end of Thor: Love & Thunder. He explicitly says:

Give me the power to fight just one more battle, to overcome this last enemy, and finally come home to her. I don’t want to return as a soldier, but as a source of peace, to teach her tranquility – something I myself never experienced.

It’s notable that the way Thor asks for help in this instance emphasizes his desire to keep Love safe from future battles. This is despite her incredible power after being brought back to life by Eternity, and even though the movie Thor: Love & Thunder concludes with them fighting together, seemingly without his objection.

This all fits together, considering Thor appears to be training for a far greater battle than he previously involved Love in. His words also hint that he’s trying to show her there’s more to life than just fighting. Notably, Thor preventing Love from participating in the events of Avengers: Doomsday could also be a way to introduce a future plotline.

Avengers: Doomsday’s Thor Teaser Could Be A Perfect Setup For Love Joining The Young Avengers

Although it’s good that Thor is trying to give Love a normal childhood and teach her things beyond fighting, this approach could potentially cause disagreements between him and his daughter.

Love is quickly becoming one of the MCU’s strongest young heroes. As seen in Thor: Love & Thunder, she’s gained god-like powers, demonstrated by her incredible strength and ability to use cosmic energy. Since Thor has trained her to fight, it’s likely she’ll become frustrated if he tries to shield her from future battles.

It’s natural to want to shield your child from extremely dangerous situations – like the life-or-death conflicts in Avengers: Doomsday. However, a child with incredible powers might feel they should use those powers to help others, believing that not doing so would be letting harm come to people when it could be prevented.

With the Young Avengers team starting to assemble in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the fact that Love isn’t central to the main conflict of Avengers: Doomsday is interesting. It suggests this could be how the character develops into a powerful, god-like member of the Young Avengers. However, this storyline might not fully happen until after Avengers: Doomsday, or even Avengers: Secret Wars.
