Avengers: Doomsday’s Script Update Will Excite Marvel Fans

I’m so excited to see Alan Cumming return as Nightcrawler in the new Avengers: Doomsday movie! I recently read that he was asked about getting a script, and it’s amazing to think he first played Kurt Wagner way back in X2 in 2003. He even did the voice work for the X-Men video game a few years later, in 2006 – he really *is* Nightcrawler to me!

Alan Cumming confirms Avengers: Doomsday eventually had a script

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed he received a complete script for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ This addresses rumors that the movie began filming without a finalized script, a concern that has been raised about Marvel films before.

When asked about reading a script for Avengers: Doomsday, Cumming said they eventually received one. He explained that these films are usually very complex to produce, and a movie like Doomsday – with so many superheroes – is particularly challenging. Cumming also confirmed that some heroes were referred to by different names to maintain secrecy. He admitted he understood the general plot, but wasn’t overly enthusiastic about it.

The interviewer pointed out that the “Doomsday” project was constantly changing, and Cumming confirmed this. He described it as incredibly large-scale, adding that he felt sorry for the production coordinator who had the difficult task of scheduling around 28 of the world’s most in-demand actors. He joked that somewhere in Surrey, that coordinator was likely experiencing a major stress-induced crisis.

During the interview, Cumming shared that he’d wrapped filming on *Doomsday*, though some additional shooting might still happen. He also clarified he was only working on *Doomsday*, not *Avengers: Secret Wars*, and hinted that Halle Berry might reprise her role as Storm. While Berry isn’t currently listed in the *Doomsday* cast, Marvel has indicated the cast could grow, leaving the possibility open.

Avengers: Doomsday debuts in U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026.
