Channing Tatum discussed modifying Gambit’s voice for “Avengers: Doomsday” in a recent interview at the Toronto International Film Festival. Channing Tatum details Gambit’s changed accent for Avengers: Doomsday
As a film enthusiast, I’ve got to share some exciting news about Channing Tatum’s upcoming role! Contrary to his deep-rooted Louisiana drawl in Deadpool and Wolverine, he’ll be adopting a different voice for this character. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he confided, “The accent is quite a challenge.” So, get ready for a new sonorous performance from Channing Tatum!
The actor mentioned that it’s challenging to explain something to someone who isn’t from the South, particularly Louisiana, as he himself is not. His father hails from New Orleans, giving him familiarity with the region. He went on to say that the Louisiana accent spans a wide range, making understanding at times difficult and requiring careful adjustment in portrayal.
According to Tatum, it was important to show that the character’s voice was capable of both humor and intensity, while also providing necessary background information. In other words, he suggested that it was possible to deliver significant details while keeping things amusing.
The actor from Magic Mike expressed, “It’s been an unusual yet incredibly rewarding experience. For such a long time, I’ve been trying to force a square peg into a round hole, but when suddenly it slips through, you feel like, ‘Yes! Alright! Great! Now we’re moving forward!’
The actor’s association with Gambit dates back to 2015, marking him as the lead for an intended standalone movie by 20th Century Fox. However, this film project came to a halt following Disney’s acquisition of the studio and their associated X-Men rights.
Tatum acknowledged Ryan Reynolds for playing a significant role in persuading Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, that he could effectively portray the character. As Tatum put it, “When Reynolds cast me in Deadpool, it really made a difference.
In 2024, Gambit was first introduced as a character in the movie Deadpool and Wolverine, marking Taylor Kitsch’s highly anticipated debut for the part. The film went on to achieve worldwide success, leading Ryan Reynolds to express to Entertainment Weekly that Marvel had developed a strong fascination with Kitsch in his role.
On March 26, 2025, it was officially announced that Gambit would make a comeback in the upcoming Avengers movie titled “Doomsday”. Channing Tatum, who plays Gambit, also shared that there are still some scenes left for him to shoot for this highly anticipated team-up.
