An actor from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday has revealed a key element of the movie that fans have been hoping for throughout the Multiverse Saga. Featuring a new version of Doctor Doom played by Robert Downey Jr., Avengers: Doomsday will kick off the story’s grand finale, which has been in development since 2021. Despite excitement, some fans remain cautious about how ambitious the film will be, given past criticisms of the Multiverse Saga movies.
Florence Pugh, who plays Yelena Belova/Black Widow, discussed filming scenes for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday during an appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast. She described the experience of being in costume with so many fellow actors as “such a unique thing to do.”
Honestly, one of the best parts of making these movies is just how much fun it is! It’s wonderfully silly, and you completely escape into a world unlike anything else. I was on set just the other day surrounded by an amazing cast, all of us in full superhero gear, and we were just…playing. It sounds ridiculous, but we were pretending to save the world, and it’s such a uniquely joyful experience. It’s unlike any job I’ve ever had.
Theroux went on to talk about Pugh’s career, noting her ability to successfully move between independent and blockbuster films, as demonstrated by her roles in movies like Oppenheimer and Dune: Part II.
Pugh believes your career path really depends on what you want it to be, as she’s experienced both small independent films and large blockbuster movies. She noted that actors who’ve worked with Marvel often speak highly of the creative freedom the studio allows.
What you want from your career really shapes your path. I was already deeply committed to making independent and low-budget films, and I knew I didn’t want to give that up. That’s a totally different feeling. When I was around 22 or 23, I was offered the role in ‘Black Widow.’ I asked around about what it was like working on those big movies, and so many people raved about the creative freedom, the supportive atmosphere, and how well the cast and crew looked after each other – it really felt like a family.
The Black Widow actress is happy to balance big-budget blockbusters with smaller, more artistic films, allowing her to explore different roles. She also believes that starring in popular, widely-seen movies helps bring attention to smaller projects that might otherwise be overlooked.
This allows support for both big and small films, which I think is fantastic. I’m excited to be able to work on all kinds of projects and expand my experience. Plus, with more people watching these films, it brings attention to smaller movies that might not otherwise be seen. It’s a great example of how one success can help another, and it made my decision really easy.
Florence Pugh is joining a large cast of 27 actors in Avengers: Doomsday, the fifth Avengers movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film will bring together heroes from the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other teams to fight Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom plans to threaten multiple universes in his attempt to gain ultimate power. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
Character Combos Expected in Avengers: Doomsday

Details about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday are still secret, but the movie is predicted to be the largest team-up event ever seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and comic book films. Bringing together the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, and other heroes in one film is expected to be a major event, especially as it will be the first time many of these groups interact with each other on screen.
Simu Liu, who plays Shang-Chi, has hinted at a meeting between his character and two iconic X-Men: Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto. This suggests that the Avengers and the X-Men will soon interact, potentially creating the team-ups fans have dreamed of for years.
If the ship shown after the credits of Thunderbolts is how the Fantastic Four travel to the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (Earth-616), then the Thunderbolts might encounter the Fantastic Four when they arrive.
With details still to come, fans are actively discussing various theories online. Marvel might offer hints about potential team-ups in the upcoming trailer for Doomsday, which is expected to arrive before the year ends. This has created a lot of excitement about what Marvel has planned.
