Avengers: Doomsday Thanos Role Seeming More Likely After Josh Brolin Comments

Marvel fans may not have to wait too much longer to see Thanos return to the MCU.

Josh Brolin famously played the villain Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for several years, most notably in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Although Thanos was defeated at the end of ‘Endgame’, the idea of the multiverse has led many fans to believe he might reappear in future Marvel projects. Brolin has already reprised his role by voicing Thanos in a few episodes of the animated series ‘What If…?’.

What did Josh Brolin say about Thanos returning to the MCU?

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Brolin addressed a potential MCU return for Thanos.

Josh Brolin said that if Joe Russo approaches him with a proposal – which may already have happened – he’d likely agree to it, and probably without much hesitation.

Currently, it hasn’t been officially confirmed whether Josh Brolin will reprise his role as Thanos in any future Marvel films. However, the Russo brothers are directing the next two Avengers movies, titled Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Although Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom in these films, fans speculate that a memorable confrontation between Doom and Thanos from the Secret Wars comic book might be included in one of them.

The upcoming Marvel movies have set release dates: Spider-Man 4 (also called Spider-Man: Brand New Day) will arrive on July 31, 2026, followed by Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, 2026, and then Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.

Josh Brolin is currently starring in the new film The Running Man, a remake directed by Edgar Wright, which opens in US cinemas this weekend. He’s also set to return as Gurney Halleck in Dune: Part Three, the next installment in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune series, anticipated for release in December 2026.
