Following weeks of leaked clips and lots of discussion, Marvel has released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. They initially showed it before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Now that fans have seen it, they’re all noticing the same thing about Steve Rogers’ return in the new movie.
Despite Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, trying to keep the plot of the next Avengers movie – currently known as ‘Doomsday’ – a secret, information about the story, which involves the multiverse, has still been leaked online.
A blurry teaser hinting at Chris Evans reprising his role as Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe surfaced in December. Now, the studio has officially released the full trailer in high definition, a significant upgrade from the low-quality, fan-recorded video. The trailer initially played in theaters with screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, but Disney has since made it available online for everyone to see.
The video shows Steve Rogers, Captain America, riding his motorcycle back to the home he shared with Peggy Carter, a scene viewers last saw in the ending of Avengers: Endgame. Inside, he’s holding a baby, and a message appears stating “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” However, fans quickly pointed out the announcement was reminiscent of a running joke.
Marvel fans joke that they don’t have to watch Avatar anymore
Okay, so everyone’s losing it over the new Captain America trailer – mostly because Chris Evans is back, even after saying he was done with the role after Endgame. It’s wild! But honestly, I’ve seen a ton of jokes online that people are skipping Avatar: Fire and Ash now that its trailer dropped. Apparently, there’s only so much trailer-watching a gamer can handle in one week!
A fan shared a GIF of a bored monkey on X, joking about people who endured watching the movie Avatar just to catch a glimpse of the Doomsday trailer, only to see the Russo brothers post it on Instagram Reels. Another user playfully declared they no longer needed to see Avatar.
Someone pointed out that you can watch “Avatar: Fire and Ash” without buying a ticket. This led one Marvel fan in the YouTube comments to jokingly say they no longer needed to see “Avatar.” However, some viewers were annoyed that the surprise of seeing Evans return was spoiled because the reveal of his appearance in “Fire and Ash” happened beforehand, with one person expressing frustration that they would have enjoyed the Avengers trailer more if they hadn’t had the surprise ruined.
