Avengers: Doomsday Rumor Reveals Doctor Doom’s Tragic Franklin Richards Twist

A recent rumor suggests a heartbreaking reason why Doctor Doom will target baby Franklin Richards in the next Avengers movie. Earth’s heroes will face a major challenge from the villain Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.), and while his overall plan is still a mystery, it’s believed he’ll need Franklin Richards, a hint of which appeared after the credits of Fantastic Four: First Steps.

In the movie Fantastic Four, Robert Downey Jr.’s character was shown stealing the super-powered baby, Franklin, after Franklin demonstrated his incredible abilities. While many thought the villain wanted Franklin simply because of his immense power, the reasons might be more complex than they appear.

A reliable source on X (formerly Twitter), MyTimeToShineHello, claims Doctor Doom’s pursuit of Franklin Richards in Avengers: Doomsday stems from a personal connection – Doom sees a reflection of his own son in Franklin.

It appears the upcoming Doomsday story might reveal a sad past for the main villain, possibly involving the loss of his son.

Doctor Doom doesn’t have much of a family history in the comics. Kristoff Vernard is the closest character to being his son – a Latverian orphan Doom takes in and raises as his adopted son and future ruler of Latveria.

Kristoff eventually took on the name Doom and was sent on a dangerous mission, similar to a doomsday scenario, to kidnap Franklin Richards. Victor Von Doom planned to use Franklin’s powerful abilities to trade for the soul of his mother, Cynthia. The Fantastic Four ended up killing Kristoff, and Victor Von Doom seized the opportunity to return to Latveria and reclaim his throne, leaving Kristoff to die.

The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, appears to be expanding on Doctor Doom’s tragic backstory. It suggests this version of Doom once had a wife and son who died before the film’s events began.

The upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday will finally introduce Doctor Doom to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s a big deal – Robert Downey Jr. will be playing the iconic villain! Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously helmed several successful Avengers films, Doomsday will see the Avengers joining forces with heroes from different universes to stop Doom’s plans that threaten the entire multiverse. The film is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.

What Could Marvel Be Hiding In Doctor Doom’s Doomsday Story?

It’s intriguing that Avengers: Doomsday might introduce a son for Doctor Doom. If so, this could open up some exciting possibilities for the story, potentially showing the villain connecting with this character as a father figure.

It’s possible this hints at a new origin story for Doom in the upcoming movie, making his already sad past even more complex. Given rumors that Downey’s Doom will have noticeable scars, maybe his son died in the event that caused those injuries.

But what if Marvel is taking a playful approach with this version of Doctor Doom, drawing from a lesser-known part of his comic book past? Perhaps this Doom has already been a well-established villain, and the Fantastic Four have fought him on multiple occasions before.

It’s possible that Kristoff Vernard, Doctor Doom’s adopted son, will play a role in the upcoming storyline. Marvel Studios might be hinting that Kristoff’s part in the events happens before the main conflict of ‘Doomsday’ begins, suggesting he’s already completed his arc by that point.

Considering the storyline where Kristoff steals Franklin Richards, could Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom actually be Kristoff – a character who once believed he was Doctor Doom – rather than the real Victor Von Doom?

It would be an interesting story to tell when introducing the character for the first time in a Marvel Studios film or show. This approach would smoothly explain why a new actor, who doesn’t resemble or sound like Robert Downey Jr., is playing Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We know Downey is playing Doctor Doom, but nothing has been said about him being Victor Von Doom.
