Avatar: Fire & Ash Villains Teases An Exciting New Antagonist for Avatar 4 & 5

The villains in Avatar: The Way of Water were compelling and complex, especially Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) and Varang (Oona Chaplin). However, I’m really interested to find out more about the even larger threat hinted at for the fourth and fifth Avatar movies.

The Avatar movies feature the RDA, a powerful and corrupt company that exploits the planet Pandora for its resources. Recently, the story hinted at a key figure within the RDA who may play a significant part in upcoming Avatar sequels directed by James Cameron.

Quaritch & Varang Were The Ultimate Villain Power Couple in Fire & Ash

The film Fire & Ash really solidified Quaritch and Varang as compelling villains. Like Jake Sully in the first Avatar, Quaritch deeply immerses himself in Na’vi ways, though his motives remain tied to the RDA. He also forms an alliance with a Na’vi clan that actively opposes Pandora’s guiding spirit, Ewya, and embraces fire as a central element of their beliefs.

Varang is a compelling new villain. Her break from the Na’vi’s spiritual connection to Eywa and her command of the Ash People present a uniquely grim perspective within the Avatar universe. Although both Quaritch and Varang could reappear in future films, the recent ‘Fire & Ash’ hints at an exciting new antagonist from the RDA, which I find particularly interesting.

Will We Finally Meet The RDA’s President In Avatar 4 & 5?

Avatar: Fire & Ash introduces a new villain that the series hasn’t shown before: the President of the RDA. Outside of the films, established backstory reveals the President is Parker Selfridge’s (Giovanni Ribisi) father, a connection confirmed on screen by General Ardmore (Edie Falco) in Fire & Ash.

This clarifies why Parker returns to Pandora after being sent back to Earth in the first Avatar movie. He likely received a second chance because of his family connections. This also changes how we understand his reasons for being the administrator of Hell’s Gate – he’s probably trying to prove himself to his father, The President.

Since Parker failed again – losing Spider and proving unable to replicate the ability to breathe on Pandora, plus the RDA suffered huge losses – it’s likely the RDA’s President will take a more hands-on approach in future Avatar films. He’s exhausted his opportunities to rely on his son to fix things.

Whether the next Avatar movies bring the story back to Earth or send a human leader to Pandora, fans can likely anticipate seeing the main villain representing the humans – the “Sky People” – appear in a future installment.
