Avatar: Fire & Ash Could Debut Trailers For 2026’s Biggest Blockbusters

I’m so excited for Avatar: Fire and Ash! It’s looking like it’s going to be an incredible finish to 2025. As the third film in the Avatar series, it seems like James Cameron is really going all out, and it could be the best one yet. Given how much money the first two Avatar movies made – both over $2 billion worldwide! – I fully expect this one to be a massive hit too.

Disney and 20th Century Studios are hoping for a big finish to the year with this film. Releasing it on December 19th positions it as the final major blockbuster of 2025. With few competing movies scheduled for the rest of the year, and Hollywood traditionally releasing less-promising films in January, Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to continue performing well into 2026.

Since this film effectively closes out the movie season for 2025, audiences in theaters can expect to see previews for 2026 releases. Marketing is already underway for major upcoming films like The Mandalorian and Grogu, Mortal Kombat II, and Project Hail Mary.

However, many films scheduled for 2026 haven’t released trailers yet. They might be waiting to see how well Avatar: Fire and Ash performs, hoping to benefit from its popularity by showing their own trailers to a large audience alongside it.

New MCU & Christopher Nolan Movie Trailers Could Be Attached To Avatar: Fire & Ash

Movie studios often show trailers for their upcoming films before current releases, regardless of the budget size. A recent example is the first trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, which premiered exclusively before showings of Disney and Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

It’s very possible that the roles could be reversed. Instead of Disney using a Marvel movie to start promoting Avatar 3, the new Avatar film might actually be where we see the first trailers or announcements for future Marvel movies.

With the Multiverse Saga wrapping up, Marvel doesn’t have many announced projects right now, but two films are scheduled for next year. The first looks at Spider-Man: Brand New Day, coming July 31, 2026, and the other is Avengers: Doomsday, slated for December 18, 2026. We might get a first glimpse of footage from both movies during the previews for the upcoming Avatar film, Fire and Ash.

Surprisingly, Doomsday seems like the more likely project to get early promotion. The trailer is expected to arrive almost a year before the movie’s release – earlier than Marvel usually begins marketing – but building hype early for this one would make sense.

Filming is mostly finished, and Marvel now has a few months to create a short trailer. It doesn’t need to be lengthy or detailed to build anticipation. A quick glimpse of the huge cast of Avengers: Doomsday – especially a full reveal of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom – would definitely generate a lot of buzz.

Disney and Marvel are counting on their upcoming Doomsday film to perform as well as the previous Avengers movies. A strategic move would be to debut the first trailer alongside Avatar 3, launching a year of promotion for the new film.

Since Spider-Man: Brand New Day is coming out relatively soon, it would be smart to start promoting the movie around seven months beforehand. While the film, a collaboration between Sony, Disney, and Marvel Studios, is still being made, there’s still a chance to create some excitement among viewers.

The next Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland is shaping up to be more realistic, focusing on villains and anti-heroes who operate on the streets, similar to characters like the Punisher played by Jon Bernthal. It’s exciting that Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will also be in the film, and fans are eager to see how all these characters connect and get a glimpse of the director Destin Daniel Cretton’s creative approach.

Thanks to his role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, actor Holland is expected to gain significant promotional attention, potentially alongside previews for Avatar: Fire and Ash. He’ll be acting with Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway, and notably, will reunite with his Brand New Day co-stars Zendaya and Bernthal.

Marketing for the new movie has begun – a short trailer actually played in theaters before showings of Jurassic World Rebirth. But Universal hasn’t made that trailer available online yet.

A full trailer for the upcoming film The Odyssey might be shown in theaters alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash. With the movie still seven months away from release, now is a good time for Christopher Nolan to begin promoting it.

Nolan and Universal had a successful strategy with Oppenheimer: they showed the first trailer alongside Avatar: The Way of Water in theaters. This helped Oppenheimer become a huge hit, earning over $950 million and winning multiple Oscars. Given this success, it would be surprising if they didn’t use the same approach to promote The Odyssey.

I’m really excited about the previews for Avatar: Fire and Ash! From what I’ve heard, we might get a first look at trailers for Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and The Odyssey. But honestly, I’m expecting even more surprises!

Previews of older titles like Project Hail Mary or The Mandalorian and Grogu could build excitement for upcoming movies in 2026. We might also get a first glimpse of Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars, Steven Spielberg’s film about UFOs, Masters of the Universe, Toy Story 5, or Disney’s live-action Moana.

Seeing “Avatar: Fire and Ash” in theaters was going to be a must-see event already. And if the trailers shown actually lead to full movies, you’ll definitely want to arrive on time to catch previews of some of the biggest films coming out next year.
