Despite not quite matching the huge success of the original Avatar and its predecessor (which rank as the first and third highest-grossing films ever), Avatar: Fire and Ash continues to perform exceptionally well in theaters. Released on December 19th, the James Cameron sci-fi sequel is proving to be a major blockbuster and is climbing higher in the box office charts during its fifth week.
According to Deadline, Avatar: Fire and Ash is predicted to reach a total of $1.3 billion worldwide by the end of its fifth weekend in theaters. While final international numbers are still being tallied, the film earned $17.6 million domestically over the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, pushing it towards this impressive milestone.
Next year’s Avatar: Fire and Ash is predicted to quickly surpass the worldwide box office earnings of three popular Disney films: Incredibles 2 ($1.243 billion), the 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast ($1.266 billion), and Frozen ($1.286 billion). This would place it at No. 25 on the list of the highest-grossing movies ever made globally.
