The highly anticipated Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to release later this month, and it promises some surprising developments, including an unexpected team-up. Sources say this third installment in the Avatar series is even more expansive and action-filled than The Way of Water. Producer Jamie Landau has suggested that Jake Sully and Quaritch might actually join forces in the new film.
Avatar: Fire and Ash producer says Quaritch’s hatred for Jake is not ‘as clear cut and dry’
Colonel Quaritch has been the main villain in the previous two Avatar movies. The upcoming third film will introduce a new threat: the Ash People, a fiery clan led by actress Oona Chaplin as Varang. Many believe that Quaritch will join forces with the Ash People to battle Jake Sully and his Na’vi family.
Producer Jamie Landau has suggested a surprising turn in Avatar 3: a possible alliance between Jake Sully and his former enemy, Colonel Quaritch. Landau explained to SFX magazine that while Quaritch initially held a strong hatred for Jake, his perspective is becoming more complex, making a simple victory over the Na’vi less straightforward.
Things are about to get much more intense. We’ve already seen Jake fight the RDA, but they’re still just people with guns and machines. Now, imagine someone who fully understands how the Na’vi fight, and they’re armed with human weapons – that’s a whole new level of threat! The producer, Landau, has said this next film has even more action than ‘The Way of Water,’ and that movie was already incredible. I’m really excited – and a little worried – to see how it all plays out.
It’s not the first time the idea of Quaritch changing for the better has been mentioned. James Cameron previously told Empire Magazine that Quaritch might go through a redemption arc. He explained that simply having the characters constantly try to kill each other for three films wouldn’t be compelling, and that Quaritch’s inner conflict would be a major part of the third movie.
Avatar: Fire and Ash will premiere in theatres on December 19, 2025.
