Avatar 4 Might Have a Capable Replacement for James Cameron Already

A well-known director who has worked on many successful movie series is potentially interested in directing Avatar 4 if James Cameron steps down. Because work on the next Avatar film has already begun, including filming some scenes, the studio might have a backup director ready to take over.

James Wan wants a crack at Avatar 4 if James Cameron steps down

James Wan recently told ScreenRant that he’s never worked on the Avatar franchise, but would jump at the chance to direct a film if James Cameron were to step down. He mentioned Avatar as one of the few major franchises he hasn’t had the opportunity to be a part of yet.

James Cameron, the director of Avatar: Fire and Ash, is planning future Avatar movies – specifically, Avatar 4 and 5 – but he might not direct them. He’s interested in working on other films, like a new Terminator movie, and isn’t sure if he’ll stay on as director for Avatar 4, even though some scenes have already been filmed.

James Cameron’s Avatar films have been incredibly successful, with the first two movies earning nearly $2.9 billion and $2.3 billion worldwide, respectively. The latest installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is quickly approaching $1 billion in global revenue after just two weeks in cinemas. Disney has already scheduled future releases, with Avatar 4 planned for December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 for December 19, 2031.

James Wan is the creative force behind several hugely successful movie franchises like Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, Fast & Furious, and Aquaman. The Conjuring series has made an incredible $2.8 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing horror franchise ever. He’s also directed films like Aquaman and Furious 7, both of which earned over $1 billion globally. Currently, Wan is producing sequels and new installments, including Mortal Kombat II, Insidious: The Bleeding World, and another Paranormal Activity film.
