Milioti jokingly revealed she’d written her speech on the back of her therapy notes, asking people not to look. She shared how much she enjoyed working on the show and playing Sofia, calling it a ‘bright spot’ in a difficult world. Despite the show being dark and intense, she described playing Sofia as liberating, like ‘flying.’ She expressed gratitude to her family for letting her watch age-inappropriate movies, thanked her friends and Farrell, and gave a particularly enthusiastic shout-out to showrunner Lauren LeFranc, playfully saying she admired LeFranc’s mind. It was a fitting sentiment, given her character’s personality.

Even though some parts of the speeches were censored, the speakers still managed to communicate their message. What was said, despite the bleeps, is worth understanding.

Gyllenhaal unexpectedly visited Cooper at his hotel while he was preparing for an Emmys party and gave him a small toy duck. Cooper shared that he’d been nominated for an Academy Award, and a friend had once sent him a similar duck for good luck. The only difference? Cooper actually won an award, making Gyllenhaal’s gift extra meaningful.

When Nate Bargatze first described his joke to CNN, the idea of awarding money for speech length seemed funny. He planned to keep the awards show moving quickly and donate the money to charity. However, the joke quickly became tiresome. Bargatze’s premise was that awards show speeches are often self-centered and long-winded, which is common. But in reality, these speeches are usually heartfelt, nervous, and full of gratitude. It felt odd to watch people tearfully thank loved ones while a timer counted down the money being ‘lost’. Several first-time nominees and winners, including Tramell Tillman, Jeff Hiller, Hannah Einbinder, and Owen Cooper, had to adjust their acceptance speeches to fit the joke. Even John Oliver, a multiple Emmy winner, used his stage time to playfully scold Bargatze. Throughout the show, Bargatze repeatedly reminded the audience about the accumulating money, but the joke didn’t develop or become more complex. He just kept repeating the same idea, which hurt the flow of the show. Ironically, Bargatze was often the slowest speaker on stage.

This episode features a captivating performance by Sam Keeley as Jayson Wilkes, the heavily tattooed leader of the Dark Hearts gang. Robbie has been trying to steal money from them, and things are heating up – literally, with a memorable nude scene. Jayson is furious that two of his people are dead and their child is missing, and he’s convinced someone within his gang is betraying him.

Even before Bryan Cranston announced the winner for Outstanding Talk Series at the Emmys, Stephen Colbert was the clear favorite. The audience had already started chanting his name after he presented an award earlier in the show. While I expected a joke from him about *The Late Show*’s recent cancellation when he was on stage, I was truly surprised by his reaction – and the room’s – when *The Late Show* actually won.

To make the Emmys more lively and get people talking, host Nate Bargatze started a fun game throughout the show. He began by announcing a $100,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, but there was a twist!
