Netflix is teaming up with Getafe in a unique promotion for their new movie. Players from the Spanish La Liga team will walk onto the field accompanied by imagery from the popular show Peaky Blinders before a game against Atletico Madrid.
The popular Netflix series Peaky Blinders is ending after six seasons with a final, movie-length adventure called Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
Movie fans are excited to see what happens next, and before it’s available to stream, they’ll get a special preview: cast and crew will play a soccer match at the famous Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid.
Atletico Madrid vs Getafe will be a big event for Peaky Blinders fans
A recent report from The Athletic details a partnership between the Spanish football club and Netflix. To promote a new movie launching on March 20th, Netflix actors will accompany the players onto the field before a game. This is reportedly being framed as a security measure for the team.
The event is expected to generate a lot of excitement on social media. Several Atletico players – including Ademola Lookman, Antoine Griezmann, Jose Maria Gimenez, Alexander Sorloth, and captain Koke – have already been featured in videos promoting the film’s release.
On March 14th, fans attending the event can enjoy a Peaky Blinders-themed experience at the Metropolitano stadium. They’ll find a Garrison Tavern pub, a barbershop, and actors dressed as characters from the show handing out hats and newspapers.
It’s not surprising, considering Atletico Madrid, coached by Diego Simeone, is known as one of the most strong and physically imposing teams in Europe. Frankly, the thought of those players needing extra protection seems unlikely, but we’ll make an exception for this particular match.
Atlético Madrid has done similar promotions before. Last year, players Griezmann, Koke, and Marcos Llorente partnered with Disney+ and pretended to be chefs to help advertise the latest season of the show The Bear.
What we know about the Peaky Blinders movie
We won’t reveal any plot details – especially since Tommy Shelby wouldn’t be pleased if we spoiled his new movie! However, we can confirm that Cillian Murphy has finished filming his role as Tommy Shelby after this film.
It’s disappointing to hear, but understandable. After playing the character for about 13 years, it’s smart to end on a high note. This new movie is set during World War II, and it brings Tommy out of hiding to resolve one final, major problem – and it promises to be action-packed.
Despite the show continuing with two new seasons and a fresh group of Shelby family members, everyone’s currently focused on the upcoming movie and how amazing it will be when it’s released on Netflix.
