Tomorrow marks the release of *Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian* on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam). I’ve been testing the PC version before launch to share details about its features, performance on handheld devices like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, and my recommended settings for those platforms, all based on the first few hours of gameplay.
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian PC port features and graphics options
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian offers a great PC experience with full controller support, Steam Cloud saves, and HDR visuals. You can customize your controls and graphics extensively, including options for keyboard/mouse, key remapping, and a wide range of visual settings and presets to balance performance and quality. Like previous Atelier games on PC, this one is well-optimized and offers plenty of ways to fine-tune the game to your liking.
The game offers a lot of visual settings to customize your experience. You can change the resolution from 720p up to 4K (in a standard 16:9 aspect ratio), choose between windowed, borderless, and fullscreen modes, and enable or disable FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) and v-sync. You can also cap the frame rate at 30, 60, 120, or 144 FPS, or leave it unlimited. HDR support is available, and you can adjust the quality of textures, shadows, effects, terrain, rain, and water. Anti-aliasing options include FXAA, and various levels of MSAA. Finally, you can tweak settings for grass and terrain details, NPC and enemy population, draw distances for various elements, and visual effects like depth of field, motion blur, bloom, and light shafts.
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian Steam Deck impressions
Past Atelier games haven’t always run well on the Steam Deck, with issues like video playback and engine performance. While Koei Tecmo and Gust have released patches to improve compatibility, I wasn’t sure how *Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian* would perform. Fortunately, it runs very well on the Steam Deck right away, and with a few adjustments, it can deliver a fantastic portable experience – a significant improvement over the Switch version.

Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian runs on the Steam Deck, but currently only supports a 16:9 aspect ratio, meaning you’ll see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Otherwise, the game plays smoothly with no major problems. Text is easy to read, loading times are quick, and videos play without issue. A potential issue arises when using fullscreen mode – changing graphics or display settings can cause the game to freeze. For the best experience on Steam Deck, it’s recommended to play in borderless window mode.
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian Steam Deck recommended settings
For the best experience on Steam Deck, I recommend playing Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian in borderless window mode at 720p. I kept most of the game settings at their default values, but lowered the shadow quality. This setup consistently delivered over 60 frames per second, even during busy combat scenes with lots of visual effects, and in towns filled with characters. While the graphics aren’t quite as sharp as you can achieve on a ROG Ally, you’ll get a reliably smooth 60fps portable experience.
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian ROG Ally impressions
Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian already ran great on the Steam Deck, so it’s no surprise it performs even better on the ROG Ally. Using standard settings at 1080p-with FSR turned off, MSAA set to x2, and shadow quality on low-we consistently hit 60fps, often reaching 120fps, when playing in the ROG Ally’s 25W mode. With VRR enabled, the game played flawlessly for several hours of retesting. If you lower the resolution to 720p while keeping the same settings, you can expect frame rates between 90 and 120fps, making for a very smooth and enjoyable experience.

I’m still working on a full review of Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian, so keep an eye out for that! If you’re wondering about the different console versions and which one is best, I’ve also written a detailed comparison article you should check out.
Just letting you guys know, Atelier Resleriana – the one with the Red Alchemist and White Guardian – is dropping on September 26th! It’s coming to PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam. Sadly, if you’re hoping to play it on PS4 and you’re outside of Japan, it looks like that version won’t be available.
