Asus recently unveiled new technology that lets you play video games using extended reality glasses.
The Consumer Electronics Show is buzzing with news, including a partnership between Honda and Sony to create a new car. HyperX is also showcasing a headset that uses AI to monitor brain activity and potentially improve performance. And Asus is joining the mobile gaming trend in a unique way – not with a handheld console like the ROG Ally, but with a pair of glasses that let you play games on the go.
Mobile gaming is becoming popular again, thanks to devices like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally that let you play high-quality games on the go. Now, Asus is pushing the boundaries even further with a new gaming experience delivered through a pair of glasses.
Asus reveals Extended Reality gaming glasses at CES
Asus recently unveiled its new ROG Xreal R1 glasses at CES and on YouTube, created in collaboration with Xreal. These glasses let you watch videos by streaming them directly from a device using a USB-C cable.
You can connect these glasses to devices like your laptop, PC, or ROG Ally. Once connected, they create a large, immersive display – a 171-inch virtual screen with a 57-degree field of view – that feels like it’s about four meters away, perfect for gaming.
These glasses let you enjoy a larger screen experience with your laptop, relax and use it from your couch instead of a desktop computer, or even game while traveling.
The Asus ROG Xreal R1 boasts sharp 1080p micro-OLED displays with a fast 240Hz refresh rate. It connects to devices via HDMI or DisplayPort using the included ROG Control Dock. When used with the ROG Ally, a single USB-C cable provides a simple connection.
These glasses have Bose speakers built right in for sound. The lenses automatically adjust to different lighting conditions, and the glasses themselves are lightweight, weighing only 91 grams.
Asus hasn’t announced when the ROG Xreal R1 will be available or how much it will cost, but they plan to release it sometime in the first six months of 2026.
