Assassin’s Creed Shadows Director Reveals Why Game Was Delayed A Second Time

Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has faced multiple release date changes, but the latest postponement comes with a valid explanation. Ubisoft recently demonstrated the parkour abilities of its two main characters, Naoe and Yasuke, which led to the developers needing additional time to fine-tune the game.

As a gamer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for updates on our game, and here’s what Charles Benoit, the game director, had to share with IGN: He mentioned that they took extra time to perfect the Shadows and fine-tune the progression within the game. But, he also highlighted a real challenge – crafting the architecture of Feudal Japan, which wasn’t initially designed for parkour. So, we can expect improvements in gameplay, but also some tweaks in the environment to make it more authentic.

Benoit commented, “Japanese architecture has exceptionally intricate rooftops. They are undoubtedly the most complex structures I’ve dealt with, surpassing even Odyssey and Syndicate in complexity. To create a seamless experience, we needed specialized codes and unique animations to accommodate the dynamic transitions of parkour, making them flow more smoothly. This feedback was crucial for us, and we’ve significantly improved this aspect over the past few months.

In a comprehensive trial run, TopMob’s Jordan Ramée has been consistently impressed by the visual splendor of the game Shadows, praising the team’s dedication to recreating an authentic historical fantasy. Although he was able to delve into only a fragment of the 1579 feudal Japan within Shadows, he found himself captivated by the stunning sights, often forgetting about oncoming guards while admiring the view. Despite not having a chance to explore other parts of the game during his time with Shadows, Ramée expresses optimism for a fulfilling experience in the future.

In the latest sneak peek, Ubisoft has disclosed additional information about the upcoming enhancements in Assassin’s Creed Shadows for PC and the introduction of the Animus Hub within the game. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is set to release on March 20 for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. If you’re interested in pre-ordering the collector’s editions, we have a guide prepared for you.
