Ubisoft just confirmed that Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2 starting December 2nd. This news validates previous reports about the game coming to the console and shows the Switch 2 is capable of running newer, more demanding titles. While we don’t yet know how well the game will perform, the positive response to Star Wars Outlaws suggests this could be another successful release for both Nintendo and Ubisoft.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows officially confirmed to come to the Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 got off to a great start, even though there were some problems with pre-orders and initial requests for a lower price. Considering the original Switch is one of the best-selling game consoles ever, it’s not surprising that game companies are eager to release their games on the new system – especially now that it’s powerful enough to run modern games smoothly. However, a key technique used in the success of Star Wars Outlaws appears to be influencing how Shadows is being developed, too.
A developer explained on social media that Star Wars Outlaws performs well on the Nintendo Switch because of its unique physical release: a game key card. This card doesn’t contain the full game like a traditional cartridge; instead, it provides a digital license to download the game. The developer stated that standard cartridges didn’t deliver the performance needed to achieve their desired quality for Outlaws. It appears Shadows will use the same method, continuing the trend of moving away from fully physical game releases towards digital licenses.
Here’s some good news about the Switch 2 version of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, according to Ubisoft: you’ll be able to carry your progress over if you already own the game on another platform through Ubisoft Connect. Plus, the Switch 2’s touchscreen will work in all menus, like the world map, store, and hideout.
Players hoping for downloadable content like the Claws of Awaji will need to wait a bit longer. While it was released on other platforms last month, Ubisoft says it will arrive on the Switch 2 later this year.
