Asmongold threatens bans for Twitch fans gifting 1000 subs amid new feature controversy

Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold says he’ll ban viewers who send him 1000 gifted subscriptions, following recent changes to how gifted subs work on the platform.

Viewers often show their support for streamers by gifting subscriptions. They can send a single sub directly to someone, or contribute a group of subs to be distributed randomly among the community.

Previously, the maximum number of gifted subscriptions was capped at 100, occasionally increasing to 200. However, on November 26th, some streamers discovered a new limit of 1000 gifted subs, which caused some discussion.

The $1000 subscription tier costs viewers about $5000, though there’s a $1000 discount available. Some streamers have expressed concerns that this new option could lead to financial disputes and leave fans with unexpected costs.

Asmongold wants proof fans can afford 1000 gifted Twitch subs

Asmongold, who streams on both Twitch and Kick, announced he’ll ban anyone in his community who spends a lot of money to send 1000 gifted subscriptions.

He warned that anyone who attempts to artificially increase his subscriber count by gifting 1000 subscriptions will be permanently banned from his platform. He stated this explicitly, using strong language to emphasize the severity of the consequence.

Let’s be realistic – no one gives away $5,000 without expecting something in return. Unless you’re incredibly wealthy – like a Saudi prince – that kind of generosity doesn’t happen. If someone did give you that money, the only way I’d consider lifting your ban is if you provide your tax return from last year. And honestly, if your income isn’t in the millions, the ban will remain.

Asmongold is banning viewers who use the Twitch feature where they gift 1,000 subscriptions to his channel. He jokingly explained his reasoning, saying he suspects ulterior motives unless the gifter is wealthy, like a Saudi prince. He added that the only way to appeal a ban is to send him a copy of last year’s tax return.

Twitch has removed its recently introduced limit on gift subscriptions. Previously, users could only gift a maximum of 200 subscriptions at once, but that restriction is no longer in place.

Emiru was the first streamer to reach 1000 gifted subscriptions, but she pointed out when it happened that the feature wasn’t functioning correctly – the leaderboard for gifted subs wasn’t working as expected.
