Asmongold takes swipe at Twitch streamers for “supporting” gambling with ads

Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold has criticized Twitch for showing gambling ads during broadcasts, even though the platform has prohibited many gambling websites.

Twitch has faced ongoing debate about gambling on its platform. While some streamers wanted gambling content prohibited, others streamed games like slots and Counter-Strike skin betting. In 2022, Twitch responded by banning streams of slots and games from websites that weren’t officially regulated.

While sports betting and casino games such as Poker and Blackjack are still legal, discussions about gambling resurfaced when the Counter-Strike 2 StarLadder Budapest Major was sponsored by Rollbit, a company previously prohibited from sponsoring events.

Twitch stated that streamers could still play the games, but they were only allowed to show Rollbit’s logo or branding on physical items like backdrops or props – they couldn’t mention the company directly during the stream.

Asmongold says gambling is “here to stay”

Recently, ads for fantasy sports have started appearing on Twitch. This led Asmongold to criticize both the platform and other creators who have spoken out against gambling-related content.

He stated plainly that running ads during Twitch streams directly supports the gambling industry. He expressed frustration with anyone who pretends to be against gambling while simultaneously benefiting from it through advertising revenue, arguing that it’s hypocritical to act morally superior when the industry is clearly winning and profiting from the platform.

I’m done listening to Twitch streamers criticize or complain about gambling sites like Rainbet or Stake. Gambling isn’t going anywhere, so let’s just move on.

Asmongold has responded to Twitch’s decision to allow gambling advertisements on streams, despite previous opposition from both the platform and many streamers. He stated that if you stream on Twitch and show ads, you are effectively supporting gambling, and that it’s no longer possible to claim moral high ground on the issue.

Twitch permits sports betting and fantasy sports, and these ads you’re seeing during streams are related to those activities.

Unlike some streamers who heavily focus on gambling content, this former OTK member hasn’t made it his primary focus. However, he’s chosen to stream on Kick, a platform supported by Stake—a gambling site that Twitch has prohibited.
