Asmongold shocked to learn how popular his videos are in China

After discovering the enormous viewership of his content on Chinese social media, even though he’s been barred from a prominent platform in the country for two years, Asmongold was left speechless.

In December 2024, Asmongold was ranked among the top four most-watched streamers on Twitch, receiving a significant amount of views.

It’s undeniable that Asmon boasts a massive following on YouTube and Twitch, yet even this gaming sensation was taken aback to discover a vibrant fanbase beyond our borders, especially in China.

Asmongold is a hit on Chinese social media thanks to Black Myth Wukong

During a live broadcast in January 2025, Asmon happened to be scrolling through his Reddit feed and spotted a post containing a screenshot from the Chinese equivalent of YouTube, called Billibilli.

The screenshot revealed that Asmon has a dedicated section on the website, where videos centered around him have garnered hundreds of thousands of views apiece.

Hold up – 460,000 views?” Asmongold gasped. “Wow, unbelievable! And there are multiple pages of this content?” Incredible!

Or simply:

“Whoa – 460,000 views?” Asmongold exclaimed. “Amazing! And it goes on for more pages? Wow!

It came as an even greater surprise for him when he discovered that numerous videos focusing on his opinions about Black Myth Wukong’s contentious defeat against Astro Bot at the 2024 Game Awards were prevalent.

Interestingly, what might be most shocking about Asmon’s rise in popularity on Billibilli is that he was previously banned from the platform for a period of two years. He suspects this ban may have been enforced as a result of his past remarks criticizing China.

He proposed that he had been banned but was given a second chance once Black Myth Wukong launched, as he showed such enthusiasm for it. They apparently reconsidered their decision, saying, ‘Perhaps he’s not as problematic as we thought.’

It’s not just Asmongold who’s praising Wukong. The game’s absence at the 2024 Game Awards ignited a massive debate on social media, with prominent gamers like Shroud claiming that the event was fixed or biased.

Since its debut in August 2024, Wukong has enjoyed tremendous success, with sales of more than 10 million units within the first week alone, demonstrating its widespread appeal.
