Popular Twitch streamer Asmongold joined other content creators in encouraging people to block viewers who make extremely large donations, following the tragic murder of a TikToker from Korea by one of her fans.
Yoon Ji-ah, a popular TikTok creator and livestreamer with over 300,000 followers, was tragically killed by a viewer on September 11th while hiking in Muju County, South Korea. The viewer had previously sent her approximately $70,000.
Choi, a man in his 50s, presented himself as the CEO of an IT firm. However, it was later discovered he was deeply in debt and had lost his home to foreclosure.
Security camera footage revealed Choi on his knees, pleading with Yoon just before the murder. He was apprehended twelve hours afterward. Though he first claimed he wasn’t involved, he admitted to the crime after police found Yoon’s body.
The killing deeply impacted the streaming community, prompting popular streamers like Asmongold and Tectone to warn others about accepting lavish gifts from fans, citing it as a cautionary tale.

Asmongold and Tectone say streamers should block “insane” donors
After a report surfaced regarding the murder of a Korean streamer, Asmongold described the situation as a serious warning for everyone involved in live streaming.
“If someone randomly starts giving you a ton of money, stop/block them,” he advised.
The popular online streamer advised anyone receiving large donations to consider the donor’s motivations and what kind of person they might be.
It might seem crazy, but consider the type of person who would send a large sum of money – like $50,000 – to someone they’ve only met online. These are often people acting irrationally, so please be careful and take steps to protect yourself.
Tectone reveals he threatened to shoot big donors who found his house
Tectone shared that two of his most dedicated fans unexpectedly appeared at his home, despite him never sharing his address with them.
He shared that someone had spotted his front door, then drove around Austin to find his house and unexpectedly came to visit. While the person was friendly and brought gifts, he firmly told them that if they ever came onto his property without permission again, he would use lethal force.
Tectone said he blocked both fans on social media and agreed with Asmongold’s views on large donors.
He explained that someone offering extremely large sums of money is likely not thinking clearly. Streamers, he added, should feel uneasy accepting a lot of money from strangers they’ve only met online.
Steamer stalking incidents spark safety concerns
Throughout the years, there have been numerous stories of streamers dealing with obsessed fans.
Amouranth was repeatedly harassed by a stalker who traveled from Estonia. This person came to her home several times, attempted to break in, and left unexplained packages.
Last year, a fan attempted to break into the home of VTuber Camila while she was live streaming, leaving her very disturbed.
A man in China recently did something extraordinary: he survived on only steamed buns and emptied his family’s bank account to send $550,000 to a livestreamer, all so she would address him as “bro.”
Legal Mindset, a lawyer from the US who lives in Thailand, has cautioned that individuals obsessed with financially supporting streamers – whom he calls ‘deranged paypigs’ – present a significant danger to those streamers.
People excessively spending money on celebrities they don’t actually have relationships with is concerning. No amount of financial support will lead to romantic feelings from the celebrity, and this behavior stems from an unhealthy parasocial connection. It would be better to invest that money in personal growth. The person responsible for this situation deserves severe consequences.

Giving money to a celebrity won’t magically make fans fall in love with them or see them as potential partners. It’s a really unhealthy way of thinking about a one-sided relationship.
Because of the increasing number of concerning incidents, several popular streamers – including Hasan, QTCinderella, and Valkyrae – have decided not to attend TwitchCon 2025, citing safety as their primary reason.
Twitch responded to concerns about safety at its upcoming San Diego event by announcing several precautions, including having armed police officers present.
