Asmongold is the newest popular streamer to withdraw from TwitchCon San Diego due to safety worries, as anxiety grows among leading content creators on the platform.
TwitchCon San Diego is happening from October 17-19. However, even though it’s a major event for American streamers, many of the industry’s most popular creators won’t be there.
In the past two weeks, several of Twitch’s top streamers have said they won’t be attending, or are thinking about not attending, the convention because they’re concerned about safety and security.
Initially, QTCinderella and Valkyrae expressed worries about their personal safety, stating that they chose not to record a live show of their podcast, ‘Wine About It,’ at TwitchCon.
“I’m a little worried about going to TwitchCon,” Rae shared. “I’ve been feeling really anxious, scared, and down all week because of everything happening. …To be honest, I don’t think my fear is unreasonable. I’m genuinely frightened.”
Pokimane expressed comparable concerns, telling her audience, “I’m a little worried it could be unsafe, and it’s probably best to just avoid it.”
Later, she and her co-host, LilyPichu, discussed the situation on their podcast. Lily mentioned she was seriously thinking about canceling her artist booth. “I have an artist alley booth that I’m scheduled to attend. I might cancel my meeting. It seems like a lot of people… I just don’t feel like being around people right now.”
We’re not sure about TwitchCon this year…

Hasan Piker has stated he won’t be at TwitchCon. He explained this is because of increasing political tensions, which he attributes to being a broadcaster who frequently discusses political topics. He believes his public profile as a politically-focused streamer makes attending the event difficult given the current climate.
Honestly, things have been tough lately. It’s a real setback, mostly because of all the political stuff going on. And it’s not just *the* incidents themselves, but how they’ve seriously impacted my ability to actually get out there and hang out with friends – you know, socialize in the real world. It’s been a pretty big deal, limiting what I can do, unfortunately.
Currently, Asmongold is withdrawing from the event, which he announced on an October 2nd broadcast soon after he came back from his break from streaming.
Asmongold backs out of TwitchCon, calling event a “zoo”
He stated he wasn’t concerned for his physical safety, and mentioned the attack on political commentator Charlie Kirk. He then recalled a past incident where streamer Nmplol was sexually assaulted during a live stream at TwitchCon 2024.
He also mentioned an event at TwitchCon 2022. A streamer suffered a broken back after jumping into a ball pit that turned out to be shallower than she – and many others – expected.
Honestly, I was questioning whether I even *wanted* to go to TwitchCon… I mean, I keep picturing people getting seriously hurt. Seriously, TwitchCon sounds like something else entirely – almost like a BDSM event! So, yeah, I’m definitely not trying to get mixed up in that. Absolutely not, I’m staying away. No way am I going there.
“I’m staying home. They got the zoo over there. That is the zoo, and the streamers are the animals. Maybe the viewers are, too.”
These comments come after Asmongold previously spoke about the safety of women at TwitchCon events. He mentioned, once more, the incident where Nmplol was assaulted by another streamer.
Asmon posted on X stating, “Last year, nmplol and wake were sexually assaulted by a streamer, but Twitch chose not to file charges or take any legal steps against the perpetrator.” He added, “If I were a woman, I would not attend TwitchCon.”
