As a longtime fan of Asmongold, I’ve always admired his candid and insightful analysis of games. His perspective, often rooted in game design mechanics, has always been refreshing, even when it’s not popular. However, his recent comments about the “ugly female leads” in Intergalactic and The Witcher 4 have left me a bit perplexed.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share how Asmongold responded when his remarks about “ugly female leads” ignited discussions about him and his personal looks. He defended himself against the criticisms that came his way.
On December 16th, Asmongold shared a YouTube video in which he delved into the heated debate surrounding a future game announcement from the 2024 Game Awards – “Naughty Dog‘s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet”.
Both Intergalactic and the forthcoming Witcher 4 sparked discourse about their lead characters.
According to Asmongold, creating an unattractive character generally has little positive impact and more often than not, it turns out to be a detrimental factor.
He stated, “It seems that prioritizing elements within a game that players disfavor over their satisfaction might inadvertently influence the overall quality of the game throughout its development.
The broadcaster explicitly stated that he holds no objections towards CD Projekt’s The Witcher 4; instead, his criticisms are directed at Naughty Dog’s production.
Asmongold responds to backlash over Intergalactic criticism
Following his comments, many pointed out the streamer’s own looks in retaliation.
Asmon responded that he wouldn’t want to play a character who looked like himself in a game.
It’s amusing to me: folks often try to label me as ugly, yet I have no intentions of entering any competition! If I saw a character resembling me in a video game, I would request a change. Honestly, I don’t aspire to be like that character at all!” he chuckled.
As a gamer, I understand when folks get worked up over differences in opinions or playstyles. They may accuse me of being this or that, vent their frustrations, and express their displeasure. Yet, at the heart of it all, I stand by my actions. In the grand scheme, it’s my conviction that will ultimately prove to be correct.
As a gamer, I’ve got thick skin to handle any name-calling that comes my way – be it accusations of being ugly, racist, or a terrible person. Yet, what seems to baffle them is that nobody can prove me wrong in my observations or opinions. So, here we are, gathering thoughts, just watching the scene unfold.
According to Hasan, a fellow Twitch broadcaster, Asmon’s perspective received criticism due to his teasing of gamers who based their enjoyment on whether a character was considered attractive or not.
Hasan stated that not all things require immediate satisfaction, and it’s unnecessary to portray every female character in a sexualized manner. He expressed his disapproval strongly, suggesting he feels regret or embarrassment about such thoughts.
