Asmongold announces indefinite streaming hiatus to prioritize his father’s health

Streamer Asmongold (Twitch and Kick) has decided to take a break from broadcasting indefinitely as he devotes time to support his father, who is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer.

In 2025, the content creator, who was 35 years old at the time, became a major figure in streaming, consistently ranking among the top names. Remarkably, they held the title as the most-viewed streamer during Q2. This achievement was made even more impressive by the fact that they chose to stream on both Twitch and Kick platforms.

On September 8, Zack ‘Asmongold’ Hoyt made a statement that he would temporarily step away from his professional duties to assist his father during any necessary resolution to their family matters.

Asmongold explains why he’s taking a break from streaming

At first, he was admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia. Upon his discharge, tests detected severe liver failure which was later diagnosed as pancreatic cancer. He shared this unfortunate news with his fans, stating it wasn’t a great day.

During chemotherapy treatment for his father, Asmongold recounted that troubles soon emerged. He shared an alarming incident where he had to sleep on the floor beside his father’s bed one night due to difficulty breathing that followed the treatment.

After a few days, the doctors advised that he should be hospitalized as his father’s blood pressure had significantly dropped to an unusually low level, around 74/53.

Although he noted there have been “marginal improvements,” the situation remains serious.

He explained, “Due to its urgency, I need to focus all my energy on this matter until it’s either resolved or unresolved. As a result, the streaming will be paused until that moment arrives.” He added, “I wish more than anything I could carry on as usual, but my family duties come first and require immediate attention.

Asmongold hasn’t set a specific date for his return yet, as he’s dealing with the unpredictable health situation of his father. However, he promised to keep fans informed when he can. He also expressed gratitude towards his community for their heartfelt support, acknowledging that both him and his father are touched by their kind words.

At the moment, one of the strongest voices in the streaming world will temporarily step away, not due to gaming, but to focus on family matters.

In the year 2021, he temporarily stopped streaming following a rescue mission for his mother who was in danger due to a fire started by her oxygen tank.
