He points out all these details, and honestly, it made me see ‘Die Hard’ in a whole new light! He’s a big believer, and now I’m starting to think he’s right – it is a Christmas movie!
I agree with Zooey Deschanel that Die Hard can be considered a Christmas movie, if only by the technicalities. The main events happen on Christmas Eve – villains take over a building during a Christmas party, and John McClane makes several references to Christmas while fighting them. This is different from a movie like Iron Man 3, which is simply set during Christmas, but where the holiday isn’t actually important to the plot.
Zooey Deschanel’s take on the Die Hard debate probably won’t settle it, but it’s interesting to know what she thinks. Like Macaulay Culkin, who used his fame from Home Alone to argue against Die Hard being a Christmas movie on Mythical Kitchen, Deschanel has a relevant perspective.
