Players are excited about the recently launched Ghost of Yotei, which quickly became the best-selling game in the UK. Reviews on the PlayStation Store show that people are having a great time playing the game developed by Sucker Punch Productions. The developers prioritized fun, and creative director Jason Connell discussed their approach in a GamesRadar+ interview.
Players enjoy the games in different ways—some concentrate on the main storyline, while others like to complete everything the game offers. According to Connell, the development team is happy with this, as long as players are enjoying themselves, even if they skip some of the optional missions or challenges.
We respect players’ decisions if they choose not to do the optional side quests. Ultimately, we just want everyone to enjoy the game their own way.
Ghost of Yotei offers a vast and engaging open world with plenty to explore, including what happens to Jin Sakai after the story of Ghost of Tsushima. The developers at Sucker Punch say this game features the most freedom and open-ended gameplay of any title they’ve ever created.
We designed this game to give players an unprecedented level of freedom – more than we’ve offered in any previous title.
So, the creative director was talking about how they’re trying to make the game’s world really draw you in. They said they’ve got a better handle on keeping the story moving at a good speed now. Building a truly open world, though? That’s a whole other level of challenge, especially when you’re trying to nail that perfect, fast-paced feeling.
It’s easier to manage the pace of story-driven sections, but creating a good flow in the open world is much harder. We use a lot of clever techniques to try and make it feel right.
Ghost of Yotei became available on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025. Players have given it over 20,000 ratings on the PS Store, averaging 4.85 out of 5 stars.
