As A ‘90s Kid, I Can’t Get Over This Video Of The Housemaid Cast Trying To Explain Pogs To Sydney Sweeney

Growing up in the ’90s meant experiencing some truly strange and memorable toys. Many remember things like the WWE figures that ‘sweated’ or the unique burnt smell when making Creepy Crawlers. But perhaps the hardest toy to describe to those who didn’t live through it is Pogs. Curious? Check out the cast of the new thriller, The Housemaid, as they attempt to explain these collectible cardboard discs to Sydney Sweeney.

A recent video on ET‘s Instagram shows the cast of a movie reminiscing, but the conversation takes a funny turn when Amanda Seyfried asks if anyone remembers Pogs. Sydney Sweeney’s response – “What are pogs?” – shocks everyone. The video then shows a hilarious attempt by Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar to explain the 90s game to someone who has never heard of it. You can watch the full video below.

The explanation begins strongly, but quickly falls apart. Sklenar immediately tries to convince everyone that pogs were a legitimate phenomenon.

The pogs arrived in a tube-shaped container and were small, disc-like pieces. There were also ‘master pogs’ – some were made of thin wood, and one special one was made of heavy metal.

Part of the enjoyment comes from watching Amanda Seyfried act alongside him. She clearly shows her character recalling past memories, even making physical gestures as if reliving them. Though she tries to assist, her efforts often backfire, leading to more complications.

Like rubber discs…Didn’t they [master Pog] have rubber around them?

This isn’t helpful at all. However, if you’re looking for a truly nostalgic trip back to the ’90s – reminiscent of classic movies from that time – you should definitely watch the 1995 Pog Game commercial linked below.

The conversation felt rambling and nonsensical, like hearing someone recount a sugary, overstimulated dream. Sydney Sweeney deserves credit for remaining patient – she didn’t laugh or cut the speaker off. She listened attentively, clearly trying to make sense of it all, and eventually realized a quick online search might be necessary.

Growing up in the ’90s, it’s hard to explain Pogs to anyone who didn’t experience them – they just fit the moment. And honestly, the cast of The Housemaid put in so much work, they deserve some serious ’90s nostalgia – like a holographic Lisa Frank sticker or a can of Surge.

Feeling old after the recent online debate about Pogs? You’ll be glad to know there’s something new to look forward to! The movie adaptation of Freida McFadden’s popular 2022 novel, The Housemaid, is coming out on December 19, 2025. Starring Anya Sweeney as Millie, the story follows a live-in housekeeper who starts a new job with Nina, played by Seyfried, and quickly discovers that something isn’t right in the house.

Initial reactions to the film Housemaid describe it as a delightfully over-the-top thriller that feels reminiscent of 1990s movies. While not every reviewer loves it, most agree it’s worth watching for its surprising plot twists and the obvious fun that stars Seyfried and Sweeney had making it. I’m really looking forward to seeing it—and nothing, not even a complete collection of incredibly rare Saddam Gasman Pogs (trust me, they are rare!), could change that.
