Arte/ZDF, Port au Prince Board ‘Ivan & Hadoum’ (EXCLUSIVE)

In a collaboration between them, ARTE/ZDF (the German branch of the European public broadcaster ARTE) and German production company Port au Prince have joined forces to produce “Ivan & Hadoum,” the first feature film by Ian de la Rosa, an up-and-coming Spanish talent.

This upcoming Friday, “Ivan & Hadoum” will be showcased as part of the EFM’s Spain in Focus Showcase, with Emilia Fort, one of the film’s Spanish producers, handling the presentation at Avalon.

Arté/ZDF plans to back the production “Ivan & Hadoum” under their Das Kleine Fernsehspiel program, which encourages innovative and artistically daring works by upcoming filmmakers.

The film titled “Ivan & Hadoum,” which received a Eurimages Co-production Development Award at the Berlinale Co-Production Market 2023, takes place within an industrial greenhouse in Almería, Spain. Ivan, the protagonist, develops feelings for his colleague Hadoum, a young Spanish-Moroccan woman. His ambition for a job promotion becomes complicated by their relationship, leading him to ponder about the kind of man he aspires to be.

Port-au-Prince and Arte/ZDF have partnered with Avalon and Pecado Films from Spain, the teams behind the Berlin Golden Bear winner “Alcarràs” and “Close Your Eyes,” as well as Vayolet Films, another Spanish production company.

Or, more colloquially:

Port-au-Prince and Arte/ZDF are teaming up with Avalon, Pecado Films from Spain, and Vayolet Films for some upcoming projects. These companies produced “Alcarràs” (Berlin Golden Bear winner) and “Close Your Eyes.”

Or, even simpler:

Port-au-Prince and Arte/ZDF are now working with Spanish production houses Avalon, Pecado Films, and Vayolet Films. They’re known for their award-winning films like “Alcarràs” and “Close Your Eyes.

De la Rosa bagged the Cannes 2015 Cinéfondation Award for his short film, “Victor XX.” Additionally, he collaborated on the script for “Veneno,” which received critical praise when it aired on HBO Max in both the United States and Latin America.
