Arcane Season 2 Easter Egg makes Faker League of Legends canon

As a dedicated fan who’s been following League of Legends (LoL) esports since its infancy, I can confidently say that Arcane Season 2 has truly outdone itself! The subtle yet significant nods to our beloved teams throughout the series have been a delightful surprise.

Viewers of the final episodes in Arcane Season 2 may have spotted a hidden reference (easter egg) that might not have held significant importance for those not familiar with League of Legends esports. However, for devoted followers of professional play, this seemingly innocuous detail completely alters the perspective.

In Arcane, there’s an abundance of references to the series that even some fans might miss. After all, League of Legends doesn’t force-feed its lore to players, so you can still appreciate it without being well-versed in Runeterra or the broader universe connected with it.

But, for those who have been watching the esport for over a decade, it’s hard to forget the best moments from your favorite teams. And, though subtle, Arcane’s creators provided just that.

Many well-known League of Legends esports organizations have made clear that they are part of the event, regardless if it’s just a minor mention.

Here we have more than a dozen teams hailing from various parts of the globe, including well-known ones such as Gen.G and DRX, along with lesser-known groups like DetonatioN FocusMe and GAM. For the purpose of our conversation, though, it’s important to focus on T1.

Immortalizing Faker and the rest of LoL’s esports legends

Although Faker possesses a greater variety of skins than several characters in League of Legends, his real-life counterpart has yet to appear within the game. However, with the complexities of Arcane’s multiverse narrative (without revealing any spoilers for those who haven’t seen the series), this brings us one step closer. T1 just wouldn’t be complete without Faker.

Furthermore, League of Legends honoring top-tier teams outside the game itself is an added effort that takes them a step beyond. This action moves them closer to enshrining the enduring legacies of the players who have shaped the competitive landscape of League of Legends.

In the world of League of Legends (LoL), the competitive aspect or “esports” has only been referenced in skins that don’t fit within the main storyline of the game, and it’s never ventured beyond the game itself. Bringing this esport into the official LoL lore is a significant step, crossing the boundary and making it an integral part of the game’s universe.

Could it be possible that they might transform Faker into a genuine League of Legends character at this stage? After all, he’s essentially assumed the role of the game’s main character in the eyes of his fans, so why not take it a step further?
