The recent player test for the upcoming game Arc Raiders, called a “server slam” by developers Embark Studio, was a big hit. The game attracted a large audience on Steam, reaching a peak of nearly 190,000 players at the same time and remaining among the ten most popular games on the platform throughout the weekend.
The recent weekend test was a way for the game developers to check if their servers could handle a lot of players before the game officially launches on October 30th, and it seems the test was successful. Players were able to explore one map, called the Dam Battleground, and experience the game’s features like leveling up, making items, and completing quests.
Embark Studios, the team behind the 2023 arena shooter *The Finals*, is developing *Arc Raiders*. Embark Studios was founded by experienced game industry professionals, including former Battlefield executive Patrick Soderlund. Unlike *The Finals*, which was free-to-play, *Arc Raiders* will be a premium game costing $40.
Arc Raiders is an online shooter where you compete against other players while also fighting dangerous robots in a world where humanity has been driven underground. As a ‘raider,’ you’ll go to the surface to gather important resources. Early playtests have received positive feedback, with players impressed by how polished the game is for a pre-release version and how challenging the robot enemies are.
Arc Raiders is entering a crowded market for shooting games. Battlefield 6 launched successfully on October 10th, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is scheduled for release in November. Meanwhile, Escape from Tarkov, Arc Raiders’ biggest competitor in the extraction shooter category, is also preparing to launch its complete version 1.0 on November 15th.
Arc Raiders will be released on October 30 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One.
