Arc Raiders Player Screaming For Help Gets Frantic Visit From Real-Life Neighbor

We’ve all been so absorbed in a game that we’ve let out a big yell – whether it’s a frustrated curse or a cry for help. One Arc Raiders player discovered just how far that yell can travel when a concerned neighbor, hearing the shouts, actually kicked in their door to check if they were okay!

On January 3rd, a player named dreamthorp shared a 16-second video on the Arc Raiders subreddit showing a frustrating experience. They were attempting a night raid on the game’s original map, the Dam Battlegrounds, and were attacked by an enemy called a Leaper while trying to escape in an elevator. The Leaper knocked them down just as the elevator doors were closing. Dreamthorp explained they just needed a moment to recover and leave, and began calling for help.

Someone did come to their aid. A Ring camera showed a neighbor checking on them, knocking and asking if everything was okay. When they heard more screams, the neighbor – who Dreamthorp identified as a firefighter – kicked the door open. This supposedly damaged the Ring camera’s recording.

A neighbor, hearing someone yelling ‘help’ during a game of ‘ARC Raiders,’ tried to break down the player’s door, thinking they were in danger! 😂 It turned out to be just a game, and the player rewarded the helpful neighbor with a six-pack of beer. (Shared by u/dreamthorp)

Dreamthorp explained in the comments that they were watching a friend’s house when someone tried to break in. The door held, and they would have replaced it if it had broken, but Dreamthorp believes just one more kick would have shattered it, even with the deadbolts locked. They were startled when the door visibly bulged inward as if something was exploding on the other side. After opening the door, they shared a laugh and a friendly fist bump with the neighbor who they believed was a firefighter. As a thank you for his quick thinking, Dreamthorp also gave him a six-pack of Shiner Bock beer.

People who commented on dreamthorp’s post had different reactions. Many thought the firefighter’s actions were kind and praised him for seemingly helping someone in need – within the video game. Others were skeptical, questioning whether the video accurately showed what happened and wondering why it didn’t include footage of the firefighter actually breaking down the door.

Dreamthorp, identifying as a videographer online, explained that file corruption is common, particularly if a camera is turned off during recording or an SD card is removed while data is being transferred. He also said that both people involved were extremely frightened at the time.

Arc Raiders has recently faced some debate regarding its use of AI. The game’s developer, Embark Studios, has explained that they believe the technology offers significant advantages for both players and the development process. Despite the controversy, Arc Raiders is proving popular, with 3.2 million people playing each day as of January 4th.
