Embark Studios is giving players one last chance to test Arc Raiders before its official release. Despite previously stating there would be no more playtests, the developer will host a ‘Server Slam’ open test on PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S from October 17th to 19th. This test is designed to push the game’s servers to their limits and ensure everything runs smoothly when the game launches later this month.
So, Embark Studio is opening up the Dam Battlegrounds for a weekend, and we get to check out how progression and crafting will work! We’ll be running through quests and getting a feel for everything. Just a heads-up though, anything we accomplish this weekend won’t carry over from the previous Slam Test. But, the good news is if we participate, we’ll unlock a special backpack skin for when the full game launches, which is pretty cool!
Arc Raiders will be available to anyone 16 or older – you won’t need a special code or invitation to play it.
At the start of the year, two similar shooting games, Arc Raiders and Marathon, were expected to compete with each other. However, Marathon’s release was postponed indefinitely after accusations of artwork being copied. Arc Raiders, unlike some similar games, won’t be free to play; it will cost $40 when it launches on October 30th. It’s a player-versus-player-versus-environment extraction shooter.
As a huge gaming fan, the timing of this release is a little crazy! It’s coming out right after a ton of other big titles – like The Outer Worlds 2, the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, Ninja Gaiden 4, and even Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. It’s going to be a seriously packed month!
