The creators of ARC Raiders have announced that the game’s toughest enemy won’t always appear in the same spot. Players can expect it to move around the game world.
Design lead Virgil Watkins recently mentioned that the Shredder enemy, currently only found in the Stella Montis facility, will be added to other maps as the game receives updates and expands.
The Shredder is a powerful, flying enemy found in the Stella Montis area of ARC Raiders, making it a particularly hazardous place to explore. Since it first appeared, the Shredder has been updated multiple times, becoming more dangerous with each change.
Get ready! The Shredder is escaping from Stella Montis soon! According to lead designer Virgil Watkins, this is just the beginning – expect to see The Shredder appear on new maps alongside fresh content like biomes, enemies, and weapons throughout 2026.

Shredder ARC won’t stay in Stella Montis forever
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Watkins revealed that the Shredder won’t be contained forever. He explained that expanding the Shredder’s role was a planned, long-term strategy, not just a quick fix.
“I think it is a promise,” Watkins said. “They’ll figure out how to get out of there eventually.”
Watkins clarified that the Shredder is presently only available in Stella Montis, but this isn’t a permanent limitation. It’s a way to keep the game fresh and prevent things from getting repetitive. The idea is to let enemies become more challenging as new content is added, rather than simply introducing new enemies all the time.
The Shredder update is planned to launch as part of ARC Raiders’ plans for 2026, which also include new environments, more types of ARC enemies, and enemies with improved and varied actions.
Watkins didn’t say exactly when Shredders will show up on maps beyond the current one, but he explained that the team wants to add them in a way that feels organic to the game world. He also mentioned that Embark Studios is careful about adding new enemy types, wanting to make sure any additions feel meaningful and not just like cosmetic changes.
We talk about ‘variants,’ but really we’re looking at how a change to things like how it attacks, what weapons it carries, or its armor would affect it. We want to move beyond simple cosmetic changes – like just changing the color of a vehicle and calling it new.
Watkins says that new enemies and versions of enemies in ARC will offer genuinely different gameplay experiences, not just visual tweaks, even if they use existing game elements.
