As a big fan of Arc Raiders, I was really happy to hear the design director talk about skins! Apparently, they’ve heard the concerns some of us had about them adding silly or out-of-place cosmetic items. They’ve confirmed they’re not planning on adding any skins that don’t fit the game’s overall look and feel, which is a huge relief! It sounds like they’re committed to keeping the game visually consistent, and I totally appreciate that.
Character skins are a hot topic in shooting games right now. Players of Call of Duty have seen a lot of fun, often outlandish skins and partnerships, while Battlefield 6 fans have been asking the developers to steer clear of them. With the new game Arc Raiders launching, its design director has directly responded to these concerns.
Arc Raiders isn’t a typical, hardcore extraction shooter. Expect to spend time doing odd tasks, like searching houses for a dog collar to put on a rooster, and dodging surprisingly dangerous robots that will send you scrambling for cover.
The game’s design director recently told PCGamesN that the playful, over-the-top style won’t be applied to character skins.
Arc Raiders’ design boss ensures skins will “maintain the current aesthetic”
Virgil Watkins, the design lead for Arc Raiders, said the team plans to keep the game’s current visual style. All future character skins will be designed to match this style and feel consistent with the game’s world and story.

He mentioned a discussion about character outfits, recalling that someone had previously stated they wouldn’t create a Santa Claus costume. He explained that adding something unexpected, like a T. rex costume, would be inappropriate given that prior decision.
That said, they’re still open to innovative concepts built around those same ideas, and they emphasize wanting to let players express themselves freely.
We’re exploring the possibility of creating something with a Santa Claus-like feel, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll have a traditional Santa Claus costume. We’re very careful to ensure everything we add to the game matches its overall look, feel, and atmosphere, explained Watkins.
More character customization options are planned for Arc Raiders, but don’t expect to see Santa Claus or a Tyrannosaurus Rex as enemies anytime soon.
