Arc Raiders has been dealing with cheaters, but the game’s developer, Embark Studios, is now taking a stronger stance. They’re not only banning cheaters, but also anyone helping them avoid detection, making it much harder to get away with unfair play.
Arc Raiders has faced ongoing problems with players using cheats since its initial testing phases. These cheats – including things like seeing through walls, automated aiming, and unfairly duplicating resources – have consistently ruined matches and broken the game’s core balance of risk and reward. The developers at Embark have recognized this issue and have been consistently releasing updates to combat it.
We’ve been working hard to combat cheating with things like improved behind-the-scenes cheat detection, quicker ban cycles, thorough manual reviews, and stricter penalties for those who repeatedly break the rules. However, some cheaters have still managed to avoid bans, usually by creating new accounts and immediately returning to the game.
Embark Studios is strengthening its anti-cheat measures, and a previously exploited loophole is now being addressed. The new system doesn’t just punish cheaters – it also penalizes anyone sharing their account through Steam Family Sharing.
Embark Studios extends bans across Steam Family Sharing
Embark Studios announced on Discord that players who are banned from Arc Raiders will no longer be able to play the game through shared Steam accounts. This change aims to create a fairer experience for all players by preventing banned users from circumventing the rules.
The team discovered the system had been misused for several months. Previously, even when accounts were banned, users could bypass the suspension by using Steam Family Sharing to return to the game and continue cheating.
This update fixes a problem by automatically suspending any Steam Family Sharing accounts linked to a suspended account.

Steam Family Sharing lets multiple people play the same games on different computers without everyone needing to buy their own copy. While often used by families or friends sharing computers, it’s also been exploited by players who have been banned from Steam to create new accounts and avoid those bans.
Now that we’ve made this update, cheaters won’t be able to avoid a ban by simply switching to a different account or computer. If one of your accounts violates our rules, all accounts connected to it will be suspended, even if other people who use those accounts didn’t do anything wrong.
Embark explained that players who had a family member removed from their account can still play. They can buy their own copy of the game, but will need to wait for any existing ban on their previous account to be lifted first.
As a player, what this really means is that when we catch someone cheating, they might get temporarily banned along with anyone they were actively helping. The idea is to not only punish those cheaters, but also discourage others from teaming up with them or trying to exploit the game in the first place.
