Players of Arc Raiders quickly fell in love with Scrappy, a rooster who helps gather materials for crafting. The developer who created Scrappy recently shared the story of how he ended up in the game and why he became so popular with fans.
So, I was reading up on Arc Raiders, and Johan – one of the 3D artists who actually worked on the game – posted the backstory of this character called Scrappy on the official page. It was really cool to learn how they came up with him!
The inspiration for the character Scrappy was a real rooster named Hakan, who famously interrupted Johan’s Zoom call when Johan was visiting his parents. Johan fondly remembers Hakan as a sweet, clumsy bird – he was missing an eye, often stepped in his food, and frequently tripped, but Johan loved him dearly.

Johan shared that he added Haskan to the game as a fun, hidden surprise. He hadn’t originally intended for Haskan to be useful to players, but a teammate suggested turning him into a source of resources.
Johan remembers how a simple idea unexpectedly became incredibly popular. Scrappy, which started as a hidden surprise, was initially meant to be a placeholder, but it quickly became a cherished and essential element of the Arc Raiders game. Johan asks that you give Scrappy his regards if you encounter him in the game!
Arc Raiders recently reached 480,000 players on Steam, surpassing the launch weekend numbers of Black Ops 7 by almost four times. The game also received an update last week.
