Movie lovers have something to look forward to on April 14th! Hulu will be adding the complete original film series, plus one of the earlier movies, to its streaming library.
On April 14th, all five of The Hunger Games movies will be available to stream. This includes the original films with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and both Mockingjay parts), as well as the 2023 prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, starring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler.
Hulu Gets 5 Hunger Games Films Ahead of New Prequel’s Theatrical Release
Hulu subscribers will likely be excited to hear that all five Hunger Games movies are now available on the streaming service. This comes just before the release of the newest film, Sunrise on the Reaping, in theaters on November 20th. The new movie continues the story after The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and takes place before the original The Hunger Games from 2012.
The prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, takes place 24 years before the events of the first Hunger Games movie. It will center on Joseph Zada as he’s chosen to compete in the 50th Hunger Games. This new story adds a twist: each district will send two tributes – double the usual number – to fight for survival in the Capitol.
With the Hunger Games films now available on Hulu, it’s a great time to rewatch them – whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering the series for the first time. And with Sunrise on the Reaping coming to theaters soon, and its connection to the original films, revisiting the entire story in the coming months will be especially rewarding.
14 Years Later, The Hunger Games Remains a Box Office Smash Hit
It’s understandable why Hollywood keeps making Hunger Games movies, even years after the original came out. Each film has been successful, and even the newer prequel movies – which don’t feature the original stars who made the series so popular – have earned a profit.
The five Hunger Games movies have earned over $3.3 billion worldwide, despite costing only $593 million to make. Catching Fire, the second film in the series, has been the most successful so far, bringing in over $865 million globally. The newest movie, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, has earned over $348 million, which is the lowest of the series, but still a solid amount.
Critics generally love the films. The first two movies still have high scores on Rotten Tomatoes – 84% and 90% – and the rest of the series also received positive reviews. Mockingjay, Parts 1 and 2 both earned a 70% rating, and the latest film, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, scored a respectable 64%.
The Hunger Games film franchise will be streaming on Hulu beginning Apr. 14.
