Apple TV+ is experiencing a major success with Vince Gilligan’s new show, Pluribus. Given Gilligan’s work on Breaking Bad, it was expected to draw a large audience, but recent data from Apple shows Pluribus is actually the platform’s most popular series ever.
I was really impressed to read that Apple reported a huge jump in viewership last December – a full 36% more hours watched compared to the year before! Though, I did see some reports, like one from Deadline, pointing out that Apple’s presentation was a bit light on actual numbers and it wasn’t exactly clear how they were measuring success. Still, it’s fantastic to see that Pluribus has been dominating the Apple TV charts ever since it came out – it clearly resonates with viewers!
The new sci-fi series Pluribus stars Rhea Seehorn (known for Better Call Saul), along with Karolina Wydra, Carlos-Manuel Vesga, Miriam Shor, and others. The show centers on Carol (Seehorn), a skeptical romance novelist who is uniquely unaffected when a signal from space transforms almost everyone else into a strangely generous, yet subtly controlling, collective consciousness.
Seehorn received a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award for her role as Carol, a character dealing with a new reality where she challenges the beliefs of a collective group and fights for what she thinks is best for humanity. Despite this success, Pluribus didn’t win Best Drama Series at either awards show; The Pitt took home the prize instead.
A second season of Pluribus is happening, giving the show more opportunity to earn accolades. However, even after just a few months, Pluribus has quickly become a key part of what Apple TV+ offers. Apple says the show helped boost viewership in December 2025, though the streaming service was already gaining popularity with several successful shows.
At the 2026 Golden Globes, Apple TV dominated the Best TV Series, Drama category, earning nominations for half of the shows (including Pluribus, Severance, and Slow Horses). They also won the award for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy with The Studio. Severance was a particularly big hit, becoming a viral sensation and consistently ranking among the most popular shows on Apple TV+.
Wow, Apple TV+ just had its most engaged month ever this December, and everyone’s eagerly awaiting the return of that incredible series. As a sci-fi fan, I’m already anticipating a really interesting rivalry between Pluribus and Severance – they’re easily Apple’s two biggest and best shows in the genre. Honestly, I think this competition will only be a good thing, pushing both shows to even greater heights and bringing them to wider audiences.
All episodes of Pluribus are now available on Apple TV.
