Apple TV is doing surprisingly well in the competition among streaming services, and it’s getting close to becoming a leader. Although Netflix has been the most-watched service for a while, other platforms like HBO have shown they can deliver higher-quality shows – often with episodes that feel like movies.
Apple TV has quickly become known for high-quality shows, much like HBO. It’s especially distinguished itself with its science fiction programming. Shows like Severance, Foundation, Silo, and now Pluribus are among the best on television right now, and they’re really boosting Apple TV’s reputation.
Apple TV+ has quickly become a major player in the streaming world, and I’m curious to see if they’ll expand beyond science fiction. They already have some solid dramas and comedies, but haven’t yet explored the popular high fantasy genre.
Apple TV Has What It Takes To Make An Excellent High Fantasy Series
HBO’s Game of Thrones was a huge success and really set the standard for fantasy television. After it became popular, other companies like Netflix started creating their own fantasy shows, with The Witcher being one of the most talked about. However, The Witcher hasn’t quite reached the same level of grand scale and impressive production as Game of Thrones.
As a fan of epic fantasy, I was so excited for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video – especially since it was reportedly the most expensive TV show ever made! Amazon really seemed to be aiming for another *Game of Throneslevel phenomenon. Sadly, it just hasn’t quite hit the mark for me, and it feels like it didn’t live up to the hype.
Apple TV hasn’t fully explored the high fantasy genre yet, but their success with shows like Severance suggests they could be a major player if they did. Many other fantasy series feel a bit over-the-top, while Apple TV’s focus on quality and realism would likely result in a show more similar in tone to those on HBO.
Why Apple TV Hasn’t Ventured Into The Realm Of High Fantasy
As we’ve discussed, Game of Thrones led to a surge in fantasy TV shows. Apple TV+ has explored shows with fantasy themes, but hasn’t yet ventured into the detailed, epic high fantasy style that Game of Thrones made popular. Considering how other streaming services have struggled with similar attempts, this was probably a wise decision.
Apple TV has found success by focusing on quality over quantity when it comes to its shows. While they haven’t yet created a major high fantasy series, that could change. When Apple TV does invest heavily in this popular genre, it has the potential to be a game-changer for the platform.
