Team Ninja has become known for making the Nioh games incredibly challenging, much like other ‘Soulslike’ games. I can personally attest to this – playing their games gave me quite a few calluses!
Putting the difficulty aside, this game is truly excellent. It’s a challenging series where careful timing and skillful play are essential – every fight, move, block, and dodge matters. Being tough is actually a core part of what makes it so enjoyable and well-loved.
It looks like the creators of Nioh 3 are planning to make the game even more challenging than it already is.
Beating Nioh 3 Once Won’t Be the End – It’ll Just Unlock a Harder Beginning

Kohei Shibata, a producer on the upcoming Nioh 3, recently told WCCF Tech that players wanting a more difficult experience in the Nioh world have reason to be excited.
So, Nioh 1 and 2 were already seriously challenging, right? Well, Team Ninja isn’t letting up! They’re adding an even *harder* difficulty level for Nioh 3, but you can’t even try it until you’ve finished the game once. Talk about a real test for us players!
Shibata explains that players can now experience a harder difficulty on a second playthrough, a feature that’s become a core part of the Nioh games.
If you’re familiar with the Nioh games, you know they all have a New Game Plus mode. This lets you replay the story with increased difficulty, but you keep all your progress – your levels, weapons, and unlocked items. Fans of the series, myself included, were expecting this feature. However, it looks like this time around, the challenges will be even harder! I’m both nervous and excited, and I’m curious to hear what you think – share your thoughts in the comments below!
Nioh 3 will be released on February 6, 2026, after a five-year wait. It will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam.
