Apocalyptic Thriller ‘Bury Your Dead’ Lands North American Deal With Dark Star Pictures, Releases Teaser (EXCLUSIVE)

Marco Dutra’s film “Bury Your Dead” has been picked up by Dark Star Pictures for distribution across North America. This agreement was finalized by the Berlin-based sales agency, M-Appeal. Here’s a sneak peek: [teaser]

The film that debuted at the 2024 Sitges Film Festival in Spain and has been shown at events like London, Tokyo, and Rio de Janeiro, will be traveling to various American festivals before its theater premiere this autumn.

Dark Star Pictures has recently released films such as “Baby,” which is also distributed by M-Appeal, “Zenithal,” and “Kidnapping, Inc.” in their lineup.

‘Bury Your Dead’ takes viewers on a post-apocalyptic adventure that blends various film genres, resulting in a distinctive cinematic universe,” said Michael Repsch, president of Dark Star Pictures. “We are thrilled to collaborate with the immensely talented Marco Dutra. His creative vision for this movie aligns perfectly with the kind of projects Dark Star seeks and wishes to share with audiences.

The movie chronicles the story of Edgar Wilson (Selton Mello), a roadkill collector living in rural Brazil, who harbors dreams of leaving behind his mundane small-town existence with Nete (Marjorie Estiano), his beloved. However, when Nete joins her kin in an apocalyptic cult, Edgar is propelled into a dangerous adventure alongside Tomás (Danilo Grangheia), a former priest shunned by the church. Together, they traverse a decaying world, and along the way, Edgar is compelled to face his internal struggles and come to terms with his past.

This version maintains the original’s flow while using more straightforward language that should be easy for most readers to understand.

The film “Bury Your Dead” is a follow-up to Dutra’s previous works, including “All the Dead Ones,” which he co-directed with Caetano Gotardo (Competition at Berlinale, 2020), “Good Manners” (Locarno, 2017) and “Hard Labor” (Cannes Un Certain Regard, 2011).

It is produced by Rodrigo Teixeira and Lourenço Sant’Anna of RT Features, and Globoplay.
