Previously, Marvel spectators last encountered Anthony Mackie’s character Sam Wilson during the finale of “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+, where Sam had officially taken up the mantle of Captain America. He was seen in a new patriotic attire, featuring a white half-helmet and goggles. However, Sam will no longer be sporting this appearance when he reappears in the MCU in “Captain America: Brave New World.” Specifically, the half-helmet has been removed. Mackie himself explained to IGN that he requested a change in costume.
As a movie enthusiast, I shared my displeasure by saying, “I’ve made up my mind not to wear that again, trust me,” I told them. It was excruciatingly difficult – the heat, the sweat, the foggy glasses turning everything into a blur. They called it a cowl, but for me, it was my worst nightmare. Wearing it felt like I couldn’t do anything at all.
In “Captain America: Brave New World,” Sam continues to sport his distinctive goggles, however, unlike before, he isn’t restricted by a half-helmet. This marks Mackie’s character’s debut as the main lead in a Marvel film. He made his entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2014, starring alongside Chris Evans in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Evans’ Steve Rogers handed over the Captain America shield to Sam in “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), and a significant portion of the 2021 series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” showed Sam grappling with his new responsibility.
According to Julius Onah, the director of “Captain America: Brave New World”, this upcoming film will not primarily focus on Sam’s personal quest to embrace his role as Captain America.
“That question has been resolved,” Onah said. “Sam is our Captain America now. He’s our hero.”
As a movie enthusiast, I’m excitedly looking forward to “Captain America: Brave New World,” where I’ll be sharing the screen with the legendary Harrison Ford. He’s stepping into the shoes of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, previously portrayed by the late William Hurt, now assuming the role of the U.S. president. The story unfolds with me, Captain America, being drawn into his circle due to an assassination attempt and escalating global tensions concerning adamantium ownership. Joining me are newcomers Danny Ramirez as the Falcon, Shira Haas as Sabra, and Giancarlo Esposito playing the menacing villain Sidewinder.
“Captain America: Brave New World” opens in theaters Feb. 14 from Disney.
