Megabonk is a fast-paced, addictive roguelike game that blends the satisfying gameplay of Vampire Survivors with the unpredictable action of Risk of Rain 2. Since releasing on Steam on September 18th, it’s quickly become popular, and the number of players is growing rapidly.
Thousands of enemies, one bonk
The gameplay of *Megabonk* is straightforward: you move, dodge, collect items, and defeat waves of enemies—lots of them! While *Vampire Survivors* limits each level to around 300 enemies, the creator of *Megabonk*, Vedinad, decided to throw that limit out the window and include thousands.

The game handles the attacking for you, letting you concentrate on dodging enemies, collecting experience, and grabbing power-ups. As you progress, you unlock amazing combinations of abilities, and you’ll face off against delightfully bizarre enemies – everything from frogs with rockets to skeletons on skateboards! It’s a ton of fun.

Things quickly go from desperate and stressful to overwhelmingly powerful and fun. One second you’re struggling to stay alive, and the next you’re effortlessly defeating tons of enemies, all while having a blast.
On October 5th, Megabonk reached a peak of over 117,000 players at the same time, quickly becoming one of the most popular games on Steam – it climbed to 6th place! It even surpassed well-known titles like Call of Duty, Borderlands 4, Marvel Rivals, and Baldur’s Gate 3, placing it just below the incredibly popular Silksong.
John Megabonk announced he reached a milestone on X, and celebrated by saying he’s treating himself to spaghetti with extra cheese – a well-deserved reward!

I’m really hoping Megabonk climbs higher in the rankings next weekend. It looks silly on purpose, but it’s surprisingly deep and engaging. It’s easy to pick up and play, but also incredibly difficult, with achievements like AFK Gaming that require a lot of patience. The game is fast-paced, the upgrades are addictive, and the feeling of surviving just a little longer is incredibly rewarding. Hopefully, it will come to consoles so more people can experience the fun!
