Currently, the toughest enemies in ARC Raiders (besides other players) are the Queen and the Matriarch. While these machines are imposing, even bigger ones exist within the game world – you can spot them in the distance on the Blue Gate map. Embark Studios isn’t quite ready to introduce these massive threats to players, but they are working on getting them ready.
Expansion of PvE content
Virgil Watkins, lead designer of ARC Raiders, told GamesRadar+ that the team is happy with how the player-versus-environment (PvE) gameplay currently works. They are considering adding more to it in the future, but they’re aiming for something more creative than simply introducing another large, spider-like enemy.
We’re currently satisfied with the current content, but it won’t keep players engaged indefinitely. Adding another complex enemy, like a giant spider robot, would likely be seen as repetitive. We need to think about evolving these experiences, especially for players enjoying the PvE content, and find ways to make them even more engaging in the future.
Players are rapidly improving at fighting the machines, learning how they work and developing effective strategies. Because of this, the Arc robots are becoming less challenging. Embark Studios will eventually need to address this growing player skill and the decreasing threat posed by the robots.

The Arc robots include small, annoying units designed to bother players. There are also rare, powerful machines like the Matriarch that appear during special events. Embark is thinking about adding more of both types, but increasing the number of these larger, more powerful robots could be difficult due to server limitations. That’s why it’s not simple to just add more of those big machines.
The biggest hurdle is balancing our creative ideas with what’s technically possible. We want to explore exciting and fun concepts, but we also need to ensure our servers can handle them. We have big plans, and while we’re not promising anything will happen immediately, you can see examples of our more ambitious ideas in the background. We’re highlighting this contrast between what’s possible now and our long-term vision as we move forward.
Watkins explained that Embark doesn’t want to introduce enemies that are just slightly different from those already in the game unless they add something meaningful. He also hinted that the Shredder machines, which are currently only found on the Stella Montis map, could be added to other areas in the future.
