Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch 2 Edition Is Nintendo’s Cheapest Paid Upgrade Yet

Although some new Nintendo Switch 2 games are quite expensive, the updated version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be different. When it launches on January 15th, it will be the most affordable paid upgrade Nintendo has ever offered.

Current New Horizons players can upgrade for just $5, while the full game is available on Switch 2 for $65 as a digital or physical copy.

This is much cheaper than upgrading other Switch games. For example, enhanced versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, as well as Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree, each cost $20 to upgrade.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond both cost $10 to upgrade on the new Switch 2. Nintendo also provides free updates for games such as Super Mario Odyssey and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, though these aren’t specific to the new console.

The Switch 2 version of New Horizons offers several enhancements, such as sharper graphics up to 4K when played on a TV, the option to use a mouse for controls, built-in microphone and camera support, and the ability to play online with up to 12 players.

New Horizons is receiving a free update with exciting new features for both Switch models! The biggest addition is a resort hotel you’ll manage alongside Kapp’n’s family, allowing you to customize guest rooms. Plus, you’ll be able to expand your home storage and collaborate with friends online to design beautiful islands.

You’ll be able to enjoy the new features even if you don’t purchase the Switch 2 upgrade. And even if you choose not to spend the $5 for the upgrade, you’ll still see improvements in New Horizons when the update is released.

Nintendo says the game will look better on the new Switch 2, thanks to a free update that improves the graphics. Before you update, make sure you move your game island data from your old Switch to the new one.
