Nintendo announced that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting updates for both the original Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. If you already have the game, the Switch 2 version will cost $5. A free update, version 3.0, is also coming to the original Switch on January 15th.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Switch 2 will offer several upgrades, including a sharper display and new Joy-Con controls that function like a mouse for easier decorating and design. Nintendo confirms the game will run at 4K resolution and 30 frames per second when played on a TV. Online play will support up to 12 players, but everyone needs a Switch 2 to join. The update also adds voice chat through a new megaphone item and allows players to see each other’s faces using in-game camera functionality.
A free update is coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons on both the Switch and the new Switch 2! It adds exciting new features like the Resort Hotel, run by Kapp’n’s family, where you can design rooms for visitors. There’s also Slumber Island, focused on online decorating with friends. Plus, the update includes fun crossovers with other Nintendo franchises – you can unlock characters and items from The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon using Amiibo, and even decorate with Lego furniture and classic Nintendo items like playable NES and Game Boy consoles!
I was so excited to see Animal Crossing: New Horizons get its first update in a long time back in May – it was great to hear they were working on making online play smoother! And I just learned something really cool: before Animal Crossing came to the GameCube, they actually considered calling it ‘Animal Acres’! Can you imagine? It’s wild to think how different things could have been.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting an upgraded version for the new Switch 2 console. You can upgrade your existing copy for just $5, or purchase the full game new for $65. If you’d like to learn more, read the review on TopMob.
